Full Moon Puja

November 15, 2024 @ 7:30 pm

Whosoever debased by his pride, exalts himself and belittles other — know him as an outcast

-Vasala Sutta:
Discourse on Outcasts

Ill Full Moon is celebrated to honor the Bodhisatta Maitriya’s attainment of Vivarana, the assurance of his eventual Buddhahood. This assurance marked a pivotal moment of clarity and commitment on his path to enlightenment.

Additionally, it commemorates the historical Buddha’s commissioning of sixty disciples to propagate his teachings, signifying his dedication to spreading the Dhamma for the benefit of all beings.

Traditions and Ceremonies

A notable tradition associated with the Ill Full Moon Poya is the laying of the foundation stone for Thuparamaya, Sri Lanka’s first stupa after the introduction of Buddhism. This symbolic act represents the establishment of the Buddha’s teachings in the region and serves as a reminder of the spread of Buddhism’s wisdom and compassion.

Join us for this special puja.

We look forward to celebrating this auspicious occasion with you,
deepening our understanding and practice of the Buddha’s teachings.
