Gifts For The Homeless

This project started in September 2011 with the objective to provide the homeless or less fortunate with basic necessities in a gift bag.
300 to 400 gift bags were distributed after midnight around central Kuala Lumpur four (4) times a year. Hence this project is also known as Midnight Distribution for the Homeless.
Each gift bag contains basic items such as soap, towel, disposable shaver, toothbrush, toothpaste, biscuits, bread, cookies, mineral water, packet drink, medicated oil, Panadol, bandages, pre-loved t-shirts & etc. The items are fully sponsored or contributed by generous devotees.
How can you volunteer?
For each distribution, we require:

  • 12 volunteer drivers with vehicles
  • 30 volunteers
What to expect?
Volunteers to do packing of 400 gifts bags at Buddhist Maha Vihara (BMV) from 11pm onwards. After packing, volunteers are divided into four (4) groups with their respective leader. Each group will then leave BMV after midnight and drive along their respective routes to distribute the gift bags to the homeless (those sleeping on five-foot ways, bus stops, under bridges, flyovers or abandoned buildings). Expect to complete distribution by 1.30am and return to BMV.
