Higher Buddhist Studies Programmes for individuals seeking a deeper understanding of Buddhism.
Adults who want to understand more about Buddhism.
Students who have completed the Certificate course in MBES or YMBA, and keen to pursue higher studies.
Sunday Dhamma School teachers who want to enhance their Dhamma knowledge.
Dhamma Speakers who want to explore more.
Upon successful completion and passing of the examinations, participants will be awarded:
Diploma in Buddhism
Bachelor of Arts (General) External Degree
Master of Arts (Foreign Syllabus) Degree

It is the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka. Your diploma is thus, recognized throughout the Commonwealth countries.
As long as you are 18 years of age at the time of registration, submit 2 passport sized photographs and pay the fees, you are fine. Of course, we will get the Principal of the Buddhist Institute to attest your application. However, for to pursue the Degree or Master’s programme, a diploma is necessary.
Lecturers are mainly volunteer teachers. They would be assisted by visiting lecturers from time to time.
Yes, an exam for the each subject will be held in October at the Buddhist Maha Vihara under the supervision of an invigilator from the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka.
Yes, in any course of study, lectures alone would not be sufficient. Reference books would be very helpful and we have a list of recommended books for each subject. They are available at the K. Sri Dhammananda Library or you may purchase these books.
The above mentioned fees covers registration, tuition and examination fees. No, there would not be any other fees payable. The vihara will bear all other expenses not stated.
